Food chain populations

What to do

Choose a food chain and one living thing in it. Make that population smaller or bigger, then follow the arrows to see how every other population changes.

Predict, then test

Three tests. For each one, choose what you think will happen. Then run the simulation and see if you were right.

food chain: Shows who eats whom. The arrow means "is eaten by" and shows the direction energy flows.
producer: A plant. It makes its own food by photosynthesis. Every food chain starts with one.
consumer: An animal. It gets energy by eating plants or other animals.
population: The number of one kind of living thing in a habitat. A change in one population affects the others.
predator, prey: A predator eats other animals. The animals it eats are its prey.
