Speed race

What to do

Set how far each runner goes in a trial run and how long it takes. Predict who wins the 100 m race, then run it.

Three tests. For each one, choose what you think will happen. Then run the simulation and see if you were right.

Aina: 40 m in 8 s

Speed = 40 m ÷ 8 s = 5 m/s

100 m takes 20 s

Arjun: 30 m in 5 s

Speed = 30 m ÷ 5 s = 6 m/s

100 m takes 16.7 s

speed: The distance moved in one unit of time. Speed = distance ÷ time.
distance, time: Distance = speed × time. Time = distance ÷ speed.
m/s (metres per second): 5 m/s means 5 m every second.
comparing speeds: Same distance: the shorter time is faster. Same time: the longer distance is faster.
