numerator: The top number: how many parts are shaded.
denominator: The bottom number: how many equal parts make one whole.
proper fraction, improper fraction: Proper: the numerator is smaller than the denominator (3/4). Improper: the numerator is equal to or bigger than the denominator (4/4, 7/4).
mixed number: A whole number and a proper fraction, like 1 3/4.
equivalent fraction: Fractions with the same value, like 1/2, 2/4 and 6/12.
simplest form: Divide the numerator and the denominator by the same number until only 1 divides both: 6/12 = 1/2.
